Bio
Greg Brown has been a part of Chicago radio since 1974. He grew up in suburban Crystal Lake listening to all of the great Chicago radio personalities and as a kid tried to emulate them as he played radio in his room. Little did his parents know then that Greg would end up sitting in a room by himself, talking to himself for a living. In High School he played in the band (the tuba.no jokes please), did some theater and played on the football team. But he seemed to always come back to radio as an interest. His dad took him to visit a radio station and set up an opportunity for Greg to meet one it’s personalities.
As Greg soaked up that experience it became clear that this would be his life’s passion.
He went to Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois where he helped to build the school’s first radio station, WJMU. He was the first Program Director and the first disc jockey on the air. Years later, Greg made it back to Chicago to do the morning show on WBBM-fm and on WMET (now WNUA). He later worked doing middays at WKQX, afternoons at WTMX and at Y107.9-the 70’s Station.
Greg then spent 11 years doing the midday show at WJMK where the crinkle of the brown bag became a famous signature sound for his very popular “All-Request Brown Bag Lunch.” While at WJMK, Greg also became the first live disc jockey to be heard on HD Radio. Think of it, those pear shaped tones in high definition!
Greg says, “Being on the radio is like oxygen to me. It fills me with life! I am blessed to be able to do what I love for a living!” And he’s excited about being on 94.7 WLS-FM, “I get to work in the greatest city on the planet, playing the greatest music ever recorded and I get to see Dick Biondi every night! It doesn’t get much better than that!”
Greg’s smooth style, fun personality and great music trivia will make him the right choice on your radio as he eases your “not so rush hour” journey home each afternoon.
