Aretha Franklin performed at the inaugural Detroit Music Weekend this last weekend. When asked by Billboard if this performance would be her last in the ‘Motor City,’ Franklin said, “I hope not, but it’s possible… It’s still moving in that direction. It’s winding down. There’s a warranty on everything. Fifty-four years of traveling and flying . . . can be very tiring. I’m not happy, exactly, about doing something that you’ve been doing for 54 years that you really, really love. But nothing lasts forever.”
During the performance, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan presented the Queen of Soul with a key to the city. 14,000 were in attendance for her nearly two hour show.
