If you’ve found difficulty in expressing your thoughts in only 140 letters/numbers/punctuations, fear not: Twitter will be testing out a 280 character limit for a select group of Tweeters. This test group will consist of English, Spanish and Portuguese-speaking Twitter users. Twitter expressed their reasoning for the test when they said in a blog post: “Our research shows us that the character limit is a major cause of frustration for people Tweeting in English.”
Twitter also noticed that Tweets written in Japanese, Korean, and Chinese do not share that issue, due to their characters meaning entire words rather than individual letters. If the trial is a success, we’ll likely no longer need to read two-part Tweets anymore.
