Animals Enjoying Wintry Weather at Brookfield Zoo
Brookfield, Ill. – On January 3rd several of the animals at Brookfield Zoo didn’t seemed phased by the continuing chilly temperatures the Chicago area has been experiencing lately. The zoo’s bison herd; Whirl, one of the Amur tigers; Hudson, the zoo’s 11-year-old polar bear; and even the African painted dogs were treated to repurposed holiday trees. Those given to Whirl, Hudson, and the painted dogs were adorned with nutritious treats. The bison seemed to enjoy their enrichment items by tossing them around and rubbing their horns on the trees.
Winter is a great time to venture out to Brookfield Zoo and see the cold-hardy animals. There’s also plenty of animal buildings to warm up in, including Tropic World and The Swamp. Guests who visit in January and February on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Saturdays receive free admission (parking fees still applies).
