There are only three weeks left until Illinois’ largest roller rink closes its doors for the final time, WGN TV reports. The Orbit Skate Center in Palatine has served as a popular attraction, for as many as 500 people in a single night, since 1972. Times have changed and the number of visitors has dropped. That and property taxes have made it so the business could no longer stay open. Owner Sandra Levin said it plainly: “When property taxes are charged by the square foot, it’s hard to survive.”
The Orbit Skate Rink closes for good March 31st. It’s been a good run; farewell to Orbit Skate Rink (1972 – 2018). Check out WGN-TV’s full story and video interviews here.
