American Airlines approves O’Hare expansion deal

The City Council Aviation Committee has approved the first step toward the $8.5 billion OHare Expansion.

American Airlines briefly opposed the expansion, but caved when given a vague promise to speed up construction of a few gates to remain competitive with United Airlines.

Mayor Emanuel is celebrating the deal, “It’s an inflection point for the City of Chicago where we’re not only going to lead the country, but we’re going to lead the world in moderizing the aviation system in some many ways from the terminals to the runways to the gates.”

The mayor claimed the O’Hare expansion will create 60,000. He didn’t say it’ll cause more noise and congestion.
