This is why your dog is afraid of vacuum cleaners

If your dog freaks out every time you pull out your vacuum, you’re not alone. But just why is Spot so freaked out by the machine? For one thing, they hate the noise. Experts say dogs feel sound phobia when they’re exposed to unfamiliar sounds– like vacuum cleaners and cars passing. Also, the vacuum churns up smells that your dog may not be particularly used to, and this is an unpleasant sensation which can make them get defensive.

Finally, some experts believe the suction of a vacuum freaks dogs out because it’s very violent compared to their own sniffing ability, so they may find it intimidating. Overall, exposure more frequently over time could help your dog get over their issues with the vacuum, so you might want to give that a try.
