They call him the “Japanese Bob Ross” — Check out ‘Watercolor by Shibasaki’ on YouTube

Bob Ross brought viewers JOY through his relaxing and welcoming TV series.  Whether you were painting along or just watching what the talented artist came up with for the day’s episode, The Joy of Painting, was a great watch.

Ross passed away years ago and his series is still watchable on Amazon Prime, but for those who don’t have the streaming service or, if you’re like me, have already binged all of the show, there’s an alternative I highly recommend…

A 73-year-old, Japanese grandfather named Harumichi Shibasaki has a painting YouTube channel called, Watercolor by Shibasaki.  The channel features a series of how-to art videos and has amassed more than 700,000 subscribers.

Shibasaki’s most popular video, a tree painting tutorial, has been watched more than five million times.  Check it out above!

Shibasaki, who previously worked as an artist and teacher, first turned to YouTube in 2016 as a new medium to teach people painting, but the outbreak of Covid-19 has brought new meaning to the channel.
