‘Frasier’ reboot confirmed for Paramount+ streaming

There’s been chatter the last couple of years that Frasier might be the next classic TV sitcom to be rebooted and it’s now finally happening, with streaming service Paramount+ announcing the news yesterday, February 24th.

Kelsey Grammer, the one-and-only Dr. Frasier Crane, will be returning to the role, with production set to begin this summer. Nothing has been disclosed about the story for the reboot, but Grammer has previously said that any return wouldn’t be set in Seattle, where Frasier took place, and the character also wouldn’t still be a radio psychiatrist.

Paramount+ released this video explaining how Grammer’s iconic and long-lasting character, who originated from another classic sitcom, Cheers, came to have his own spin-off.

It’s not clear if the other main characters of Niles, played by David Hyde Pierce, Jane Leeves‘ Daphne or Roz, played by Peri Gilpin will return, but TVLine says there are no deals in place with any of them yet.

John Mahoney, who played Frasier and Niles’ father Martin Crane, died in 2018.
