Foo Fighters to receive Global Icon Award at MTV Awards

Foo Fighters will be presented with the first-ever Global Icon Award at this years’ MTV Video Music Awards.

According to the press release, the award is given to artists who have “left an indelible mark on the musical landscape and continues to influence, inspire and evolve.”

The acknowledgement comes just six weeks before the band will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Foo Fighters will have a large presence at this year’s event. They’ll also perform and are nominated for three awards for their single,  “Shame Shame,”  for best rock, best choreography, and best cinematography.

The MTV Video Music Awards airs live from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Sept. 12.
