Chicago’s Polar Express Train canceled for 2022

This is a Chicago holiday tradition that just hasn’t been able to make its return. The Polar Express train ride out of Union Station is canceled for the 2022 holiday season.

Amtrak would grant riders an experience based on the Polar Express book and film, complete with hot cocoa, dancing, and a visit from Santa Claus.

Unfortunately, due to a systemwide shortage of railway personnel, there just aren’t enough employees to make these holiday rides happen.

The Polar Express train rides out of Union have had difficulty making their return ever since the pandemic. Amtrak will attempt to revive the Christmas-themed train ride in 2023.
