One of the funniest comedy franchises of all time is getting a reboot.  A new “Naked Gun” movie is in the works, starring Liam Neeson.

That’s an interesting choice because his name is so similar to the star of the original movie, Leslie Nielsen!  And, just like Leslie, Neeson goes into it having been known primarily for serious roles.

Technically, Leslie Nielsen’s big break in comedy was “Airplane!” in 1980 which led to the short-lived TV series “Police Squad”  which was then spun off into the “Naked Gun” film franchise…

There were three “Naked Gun” movies, in 1988, 1991, and 1994.  Nielsen continued working (mostly) in “spoof”-style comedies until his death in 2010.

This isn’t official, but there’s word that Neeson will play the SON of Leslie Nielsen’s character, Lieutenant Frank Drebin.
