In just over a month, WGN’s Chief Meteorologist Tom Skilling will sign off for the final time as he will retire after 45 years.
The Wiener’s Circle, located at 2622 North Clark Street in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood, made a special announcement for Skilling on their marque in celebration of his upcoming retirement.
“Happy retirement Tom Freakin’ Skilling,” The Wiener’s Circle reads.
Skilling, a fixture of Chicago television and beloved by generations, announced on Oct. 12 he will be retiring after 45 years at WGN.
“Special thanks to all at the Wiener’s Circle restaurant for putting this up! I’m blown away!” Skilling posted on Facebook.
Skilling started his successful career at the age of 14 in Aurora, while still in high school. He had a series of radio and TV jobs in Illinois and Wisconsin before coming to WGN-TV in August of 1978.
Tom Skilling’s last broadcast at WGN-TV will be on Wednesday, Feb. 28.
