A new study finds that Chicago is one of the noisiest largest cities in the nation.
Whether it’s planes, trains or automobiles — even construction work or bucket drummers — Chicago has been ranked the second noisiest city in America.
Collin Czarnecki, a researcher with Steel Guard Safety, a noise control product manufacturer behind the study, said the city’s airports and traffic density are partly behind the city’s ranking.
“Obviously, O’Hare has been consistently ranked as one of the busiest airports in the country, so that’s a big contributing factor when it comes to noise,” he said.
For those looking to escape the noise, Czarnecki said the study did find that 98 percent of Chicagoans live within a 10-minute walk of a potentially quiet park.
New York took the number one spot for noisiest city, with Jersey City, Newark and Boston rounding out the top five.
