The list of 50 finalists has been revealed in the city’s third annual “You Name a Snowplow” contest, and Chicagoans continue to excel at finding new ways to insert the words “plow” and “snow” into landmarks, song titles and catchphrases (like the lead to this article).
Voting is now open online through Jan. 21. Chicago residents can vote for as many as six names, and the top vote getters will represent one snowplow in each of the city’s six snow districts.
Joakim Snow-uh and Snow Angel Reese rep the city’s sports scene; Salt Institute of Chicago and Adler Plowatarium have museums covered; Plowed Gate and Plowcasso could appeal to sculpture buffs; and Urbs in Ortsnow, Make Snow Little Plans and City of Big Shovels riff on various Chicago mottos.
At least one person seems to have been inspired by “Wicked,” submitting We’re Off to See the Blizzard. Plowin’ in the Wind is either a nod to the Windy City, Bob Dylan or Timothee Chalamet.
Put Cold Style, Deep Drift Pizza, Celery Salt, Flake Shore Drive, The Chilly Goat Tavern and Snower Wacker together and you’ve got the makings of a tourist itinerary.
