It’s still hot outside and Halloween is more than two months away, but Halloween candy is already showing up on store shelves, with people sharing photos of the orange-and-black filled candy aisles on social media. After starting with Christmas, the super-early display of seasonal items happens with every holiday now, but it seems to be getting worse.
How soon is TOO soon to start celebrating Halloween? Looks like my local @Safeway is ready to start this party early. 🎃 @ABC10 #Halloween #candy pic.twitter.com/c2Q8IuZnKa

Consumer trends analyst and Supermarket Guru website founder Phil Lempert recently told The Baltimore Sun, “I can say in the past 20 years I’ve never seen Halloween candy being sold this early.” He says it’s a way to get people to buy more Halloween candy, saying, “Most people are gonna start eating it. They’re not going to wait till Halloween.” Other experts point to the competition factor, as stores squeezed by online retailers and other brick-and-mortar outlets looking to get a leg up by being first out with the holiday treats.
