Dollar Tree plans to close up to 390 Family Dollar stores this year and rebrand about 200 others under the Dollar Tree name. Dollar Tree bought Family Dollar in 2015 with the expectation that it would help it compete against other low-cost chains, but Family Dollar has struggled and pulled down the parent company’s earnings. While most items at Dollar Tree cost one dollar, Family Dollar sells items for up to $10.
