One place the customer is no longer always right is in an Uber. Starting yesterday (May 29th), the ride-hailing app starting giving the boot to the worst riders. Kate Parker, Uber’s head of safety brand and initiatives wrote in a blog posted Tuesday (May 28th): “Respect is a two-way street, and so is accountability. While we expect only a small number of riders to ultimately be impacted by ratings-based deactivations, it’s the right thing to do.”
Currently Uber drivers can face deactivation if their rating (given by riders) falls below a 4.6, but riders’ accounts won’t be deactivated immediately once they dip “significantly below” the average, as they’ll be given a chance to redeem their ratings. Parker says to keep your rating up you should avoid leaving trash in the Uber and avoid asking the driver to speed.
