Petition founder Gina Dilecce wrote, “It’s been a while since we’ve had some real metal play the halftime show for the Super Bowl. Don’t get me wrong, all music artists have done a great job and should play the show, but we all need a turn.” This comes just a week after Jennifer Lopez and Shakira delivered a really solid halftime show at the big game, but, obviously, one that was clearly pop music.
She added, “It’s time for some rock and roll! And who better than AC/DC to play?! They are coming back together, making a new album and possibly touring again. This would be perfect! Come together, metal heads, and get this going!”
The petition, which has just over 4,900 signatures with a goal of 5,000 at the time of writing this article, has also caught the attention of Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider, who posted a video on Instagram directed toward NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
Snider said on Instagram, “There are a lot of bands that are stadium worthy and a lot of bands that have sold hundreds of millions of records, but the one band that I think has such crossover appeal to so many people in all genres is AC/DC . . . the band is reuniting with a new album, they’re going to be touring again and they would bring down the house.”
AC/DC will reportedly release a new album this year and tour behind it with four of the band’s “classic lineup” members back in the group — including co-founder and mainstay Angus Young, singer Brian Johnson, drummer Phil Rudd and bassist Cliff Williams.
