The Class of 2041 will have a lot of graduates named Olivia, Charlotte, Noah or Liam. Those were some of the most popular name choices for newborns in 2023, according to the Social Security Administration, which released new state-by-state data on Thursday showing the most popular baby names for each of the 50 states.
Illinois went right along with those popular trends, with 672 boys named Noah and 535 girls named Olivia born in the state in 2023, tops for both, according to the SSA.
The second-most popular boy name in Illinois in 2023 was Liam (665), followed by Oliver (495), Mateo (481) and Theodore (481) to round out the top five. Following Olivia in girl names in the state last year were Emma (493), Mia (439), Sophia (434) and Charlotte (433).
The SSA’s data shows the most popular baby names in each state going back to 1960. That year, Michael ranked first for boys in Illinois at a whopping 5,413, while Mary was first for girls with 3,568.
Michael still ranked No. 10 for boy names in Illinois in 2023, but Mary had fallen all the way out of the top 100 for girl names.
